Yummy.....some food!

Max had his first solid food this weekend........SWEET POTATOES!!  A SUPER FOOD!!  He seemed to like it.....but he will need a bit more practice to get the system down so that more goes IN than comes OUT!!
Then there was the clean up......sweet potatoes tend to spread when your hand goes into your mouth at the same time as the spoon!!

Add a nice clean outfit and we are ready to face the day......looking VERY DAPPER!!

Big Week for Max

Max had a big week.......he turned 6 months old and got off full time oxygen all in the same week.  He still needs the oxygen any time he is sleeping but it is so much easier to carry him around without trailing a tube behind you!  Even though he is 6 months old his corrected age is barely 3 months.  He smiles a lot now and really gazes intently at people and his environment.  Working on getting his hands in his mouth takes up a lot of his time!

Concert in the Park

Dan is in Boston on a business trip so I am at Alissa's helping with Max and the house.  Thursday is the FREE concert in the park series in Puyallup so we ALL packed up and had a great evening relaxing.  (Except poor Dan working away in Boston!)
Here are some pics of everyone.....(except me behind the camera!)

Kids and Water and Sun

We were supposed to have some nice weather (finally) so I arranged very quickly to pick up my 2 oldest grandchildren for an overnight and "fun sun day"!  We made the most of every sunny moment playing in my yard with new water toys and in the water at my lake.  Their parents (along with Simon of course) picked them up the next day and Alissa and Max came to play too!! It was wonderful.........I couldn't have asked for more fun!!

Max's First Smiles!!

When I arrived at the McDonald home yesterday morning I was greeted with a big smile from Max....he then turned to his Mama and gave her a big smile.  These were Max's first smiles and it was very exciting and fun to see.  What a cutie!!  Throughout the day we saw several more smiles.  It is hard to catch a baby smile on a digital camera....the smiles are quick and the camera is slow.  I did catch a few though...it seems he likes people who make silly noises and funny faces!!  Here are some samples!!  One even looks like a big laugh!!

And finally.....the big almost laugh!!  It really pays to be a very silly grandma!!

Settling for Butterflies

I have no cute grandchildren in my backyard today so I have to settle for a beautiful butterfly.
According to information gathered by my cousin Carole this is a  Swallowtail Butterfly. If you look carefully you will see some little blue dots by the tail. These are actually there to confuse the birds as they think they are the butterflie's eyes. When they swoop down for a bite of butterfly they are actually attacking the tail and not the head. This does little harm to the butterfly.

This one has a small piece missing from the wing but the tail in intact.
This was a very cooperative butterfly and hung around while I was able to take 40 pictures from various angles.......They ALL turned out...here are a few.
